The Great Diaper Challenge: And the winner is...

So in case you're worried something happened to me because I didn't make a post yesterday (but you probably weren't unless you are my mom )...I'm fine. The internet was just acting up and being my worst enemy yesterday and I gave up trying to post this (it was finished yesterday).

Round 3 Wrap Up:

Earth's Best Tender Care Diapers
So today we finished up our pack of Earth's Best Tender Care Diapers, THANK GOD! I have to say I wanted to bail on these diapers early on...and NOT just because they're ugly! To be honest I was beginning to question whether Gunnar was suddenly bigger than 18 lbs (which these size 2 diapers are supposed to go to) because he was having a pee through or blow out or both everyday! But after weighing him on the scale today I realized, no he is indeed still under 15 lbs...these diapers just don't hold it in. Gunnar's diaper rash also seemed to return somewhat this week.  Out of the 40 diapers we had 6 pee thrus and 5 blowouts. I think the biggest fault here are the fasteners which seem to pop open at random. I don't think I've ever had to soak more outfits or crib sheets than I did this week! With Amazon subscribe and save program (and free shipping from amazon.com/mom or amazon prime) pricing comes to $0.22 per diaper.

So here's how they scored on each category (5 star system.  5 *'s=Best, 1*= worst)

feel:                ****
softness:         ****
fit:                   ***

Average:   2.625 out of 5 *'s

AND the CLEAR winner of The Great Diaper Challenge is:

Seventh Generation Diapers
Seventh Generation Chlorine Free Baby Diapers, Stage 2 (12-18 Lbs.), 40 Count (Pack of 4) With 4/5 stars these diapers were above all the best in all categories. Although they are NOT biodegradable they are made with renewable resources. And not to mention they really held in Gunnar's pee, and were overall the most reliable. And after 2 trial packs I noticed this was the only diaper that I tried where diaper rash was not present at all.
So I'm planning to start subscribing to these diapers on Amazon.com/mom with the FREE shipping and their subscribe and save program. Unfortunately these diapers were the most expensive (of course) but I have a feeling I'll be going through fewer diapers at a time because they are so reliable, which will save me money in the long run.  Now I just don't know which size to order. Gunnar is nearing the 16 lbs that starts of the stage 3...but he could potentially stay in 2's for a while since they go to 18 lbs. Hmmmm such a dilemna.

This was one of the rare viewings of Gunnar's eyes yesterday

10 straight hours is the new-norm for this BIG BOY

And taking long naps during the day are making it seem like I never see the guy!

But when he's awake...he sure is entertaining!!

Comments

  1. I think these diapers run a bit small. My 22 pound baby wears size 4. So I'd be hesitant to order 120 size 2. But I do LOVE them! I'm on my second month of subscribe and save, and I've been very happy with them. The fasteners are great, they absorb a lot, and we've had much better luck with the rash (though it still exists, I can get rid of it faster - I don't blame the diapers for her issues any more).

  2. I would order the diaper size more on the shape of G than the weight. Brynje is almost 19 ibs but still in diapers that are supposed to only go up to 17.5 lbs. And, I still close them with the fasteners touching each other in the middle. He is long and very lean so even though he is above their recommended weight they fit him really well. If I went up to the next size I am sure they would fall off his tiny, nearly non-existant butt =) -Kendra
