A Wee bit of Advice for brand new mommies...

...TAKE YOUR BABY TO THE MOVIES....NOW!!!

I sooooo miss a good night out at the movies.  I've heard so many things about great summer movies lately and I just think to myself...I guess I'll put it on the list of future Netflix requests.
Taking an almost 7 month old to the movies is far far different from taking a newborn to the movies...which is surprisingly doable!

When Gunnar was just a few weeks old we took him to see "Harry Potter: The Deathly Hollows; part 1"...his first official movie (I know good choice huh?).  He did really well, with the exception of the first 10 minutes. He started to cry just as the movie started and daddy was so nervous that he took Gunnar and ran out of the theater. I wasn't sure what he wanted me to do because I  had the car seat, the popcorn, the diaper bag...and I didn't think I could grab everything and run out the way he did. So I waited for him to return. John wasn't very happy with that choice because he had to deal with screaming baby for 10 minutes, but he eventually stopped crying. Once John brought him back in I nursed him right away and because it was dark...he nursed and slept in my arms for the duration of the movie. Glorious!
His second movie was a little less "kid friendly" but even more successful because he slept the whole time...no crying when we went to see "The Fighter".  Both of these movies were early Sunday morning movie times (11am) which worked really well... But that was where our baby/movie ventures ended. Why? I don't know.  We still had a good month or two of sleepy newborn-non-aware of environment left with Gunnar...but we never made it a priority.  I'm telling you, if you're a new parent...make it a priority. It's doable...it's nice...and you won't be able to do it for a long while...so LIVE it UP!!!

In Other News: Happy 30th Birthday to Gunnar's Auntie Kerry! I have to say...I love lists and I am a little jealous of Kerry's idea to do 30 things on her 30th birthday (check out her list/blog).  Gunnar and I joined her for the Lincoln Square portion of the day. Highlights included: a trip to the toy store and ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery.  After a short break, and once daddy got home we joined them for dinner at Wild Goose.  It was going to be a little late for G so we gave him a bath and brought him in his jammies and fed him oatmeal there...and the golden moment was when he fell asleep in my arms (this never happens...and I relished every second!).

  1. In Norway they have baby movies. It is at a different time depending on the city you lives in, but it is usually on a tuesday or thursday morning. Since we get 1 year of paid maternity leave here there are always other moms home. The movie is an adult movie but the lights are slightly on so that you can see your kid and your supplies, the volume is lower, the temperature is warmer, there are usually large diaper garbage cans set up in the front of the theater, and it is free to talk (or cry) while the movie is playing. It is so much fun!!!! Moms come with their strollers and large blankets that they spred across the floor for their baby to roll around on. It would be fun if some large cities in the states did the same thing. There are enough stay at home moms that it could probably work (or moms still home after having the baby). -Kendra
